Places you can anchor and visit on the lower bay . Marinias and boat yards which can handle multihulls whether it be full service or doit yourself facilities .I will try to cover the Chesapeake Bay from Reedville Va. to Portsmouth Va.mile marker 0 on the intercoastal waterway.I dont know much about the Eastern Shore side of the Chesapeake Bay but will welcome any contributions.

A little about myself

My name is Steven Mclaughlin . I have been sailing for approximately 26 years,23 of which i have been sailing multihulls.I like to sail multihulls because of the speed and ease of handling.

My first expierence to multihulls was on a G cat catamaran it was a real thrill and i was bit by the multihull bug.my first multihull was a Sol cat 18 .Not the fastest catamaran but the price was right. After that i started a collection of multihulls a Prindle 19 &16 catamaran ,18ft Sunbird trimaran, 23ft Stiletto,25ft searunner trimaran,Windrider Rave Hydrofoil, and parts of various other boats,it seems that i would get more boats and not get rid of any.I think i have now reached the pinnacle of my boat addiction with the purchase of a Corsair F28r Trimaran. However i did sell the Stiletto23 to a good friend.

I am not much of a racer but i do enjoy a race.I did race my Stiletto 23 against some Corsair Trimarans in the area . I thought that match racing would be much more fun.The hard part is to get enough multihulls to race so that we would be invited to regattas that are usally Monohull only events. Also it seems that there is a stigma that multihull sailors can not sail.I think the real reason is that the monohull sailors are afraid of the speed of the multihull type boat, as well as monohulls are the traditional ,accepted type vessel and change is hard to accept.Multihulls at regattas that have been mixed have usally started the multihull fleet last at their events while they start the fastest monohulls in their fleets first.Go figure.

I have been racing the last few years with York River Yacht Club on wed nights on a monohull . I crew on a 26ft  monohull at races which do not have a multihull start.York River Yacht Club as well as Seaford Yacht Club has hosted events which have included multihulls .Fishing Bay Yacht Club, in Deltaville,Portsmouth Yacht Club and Hampton Yacht Club have also hosted events which have included multihulls.I hope that this trend will continue but the number of multihulls that do race has been in decline .With these numbers of multihulls dwindling so will the races that we could attend will get smaller.

Light Air day on York River Corsair F-28r

Home Base on the Bay

Home base on the Bay for me is on the York River ,Sarah Creek in Gloucester. This is really nice place to sail as it is a very scenic and easy river to navigate on .The York River is about the middle of the lower Chesapeake Bay. It has many safe places to anchor your boat. The people on the river are friendly .Sarah Creek to me is about the best hurricane hole in the area ,plenty of places to hide in ,away from the bad weather.

Sail Honeymoon

Other places that i like to sail which are not on the bay is St augustine FL. and my most favorite place to sail is Dunedin FL.at Sail Honeymoon on the Dunedin causeway.
